Blue Cash Preferred or Blue Cash Everyday?

If you’re having trouble deciding which of these credit cards to get, download my Excel spreadsheet to see which one better fits your needs.

American Express offers two of the best cash back cards out there, but which is the best one for you?  Well, that is determined by how much you spend in each category per year.  Let’s compare the 2 below.

Blue Cash Preferred

The American Express Blue Cash Preferred card has a $95 per year fee, seem like a lot, right?  It’s not if you spend a lot though!

  • 6% cash back at US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year in purchases and then 1%)
  • 3% cash back at US gas stations
  • 3% cash back at department stores
  • 1% cash back on all other purchases

Why use a credit card?

Receiving cash back is a great reason to use a credit card, and it also builds your credit.  You *MUST* pay your credit card balance off in full every month or this will not be worth it and you’ll find yourself trying to dig yourself out of a hole.  Below is an actual screen shot of my accumulated reward dollars in 2017.  In March I referred one of my friends and received a bonus as well!

I currently have $267.88 that I can apply to my balance or spend on Amazon.com.  Not only that, you can donate your reward dollars to charity or purchase other items they offer.  Using towards your credit card balance is the best option.  I choose who I donate to separately.  The great thing about having an American Express card is, you can add other people to this card.  My wife has a card and we use it for anything we can, but we always pay it off 100% of the balance when it’s due.

Download my free Excel spreadsheet to determine which card is the best for you.  Not only is it much easier tracking your spending since you’ll be buying everything from this one card, receiving cash back is free money!  No matter how you buy things, whether it’s cash, check, credit cards, or cryptocurrency, I challenge you track your spending the last 3 months of the year and see an increase in your net worth by downloading my free Budget Workbook.
